Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish

Surprise surprise…I fell behind with blogging.  Right after my last post, I found out that I was taking over for a fourth grade teacher for the rest of the year.  Unfortunately, Elementary Thoughts had to take a backseat.  Long-term subbing is not for the faint of heart.  I learned a lot as a fourth grade teacher – it was an amazing experience.  I’ve never been so exhausted.  I feel like I’ve finally recharged from such a hectic end to the year.  Thank everything for summer vacation.  Teachers, we made it!

I created another site for tech resources for my students,  It was great for the end of year, when we had finished up much of the heavy work and they could do some fun educational stuff on their tablets (the 4th and 5th grade at my school are lucky enough to have 1-to-1s).  My absolute favorite (and the students’ by far) is Storybird.  It allows students to choose a piece of artwork and create online storybooks.  Once they choose the illustration they like, they are presented with more related pictures so that their creations feel like really storybooks.  A regular account is free, and a premium account is free for teachers (up to 30 students).  The kids were basically addicted to it and would beg EVERYDAY to use it.  I began to use it as a reward towards the end.  Some are still using it – even in the summer.  Fourth graders who hate writing are WRITING IN THE SUMMER.  I’m going to post a more thorough review of it soon.

This summer, I’m looking for a classroom position and working on my portfolio.  Lots to do in the next 6 weeks!  I’ll be blogging as much as I can as well 🙂

For now,

Also, check out this amazing blog, Love, Teach, if you haven’t already.  It’s written by a hilarious middle school teacher who I began to rely on to make it through the agonizing month of June.

peace, love, teach, learn.
